GKB International School was established on 21 January 2019 in the peaceful rural village of Rupahi, P.O. Rupahi, District Baksa, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Assam, near the forests of Manas National Park and close to the Bhutan border. The school was founded in loving memory of Late Ghano Khanta Basumatary, a humble daily wage labourer whose life embodied hard work, honesty, and selfless sacrifice.

Despite severe financial hardship, Late Ghano Khanta Basumatary and his wife, Mrs. Male Basumatary, devoted their lives to raising their four children with dignity. They worked tirelessly every day, often surviving with very little, yet they never gave up their dream of providing their children with good values, quality education, and a brighter future. They believed that education is the most valuable inheritance parents can leave for their children.

On 7 July 1989, tragedy struck. After sharing a simple cup of red tea in the morning, he left home with his wife to purchase rice and other household necessities from the local market. Sadly, while returning home, he was allegedly abducted by four unidentified persons, taken into a deep forest, and tragically lost his life. His untimely death brought immense sorrow to his family and the community.

As the Director of GKB International School, I believe that every child has unique potential. Poverty, geographical isolation, or social circumstances should never become barriers to education. Our mission is to create an environment where students grow academically, morally, emotionally, and socially, becoming responsible citizens and compassionate human beings.

Every classroom, every lesson, and every achievement of our students is a tribute to the dream of Late Ghano Khanta Basumatary. His life reminds us that true greatness is measured not by wealth but by the dreams we leave behind and the lives we inspire.
